Top Five Richest Men in the World According to Forbes

The five richest men in the world according to Forbes

1 Carlos Slim Helu and family

Carlos Slim led the ranking in 2010 with a fortune of 53.5 billion dollars. This year, their savings were valued by Forbes at 74 billion dollars. He managed to score 20.5 billion to its assets in one year.

Slim started the trend of success with a soft drink factory. Today, the tycoon owns more than 200 companies spread throughout Mexico. Apart from America Movil, where it comes from about 62% of his fortune, the portfolio includes airlines, banks, restaurants, construction companies, stakes in department stores and even in The New York Times.

2 Bill Gates

The Microsoft founder has held the position of richest man in the world for 14 years. In 2008 he moved into second place but came back to lead in 2009 - to remain in second since 2010. That year, his fortune is estimated by Forbes at $ 56 billion, about $ 3 billion above the 2010 value.

Besides Microsoft, Bill Gates's investment includes the Four Seasons hotels and Televisa. Gates gets about 70% of his fortune to the business outside of Microsoft. The entrepreneur has moved away from daily duties at the company to devote himself to philanthropy at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - which focuses on education and vaccine development.

3 Warren Buffett

With a fortune estimated at 50 billion dollars, Soros Warren Buffett, ranked third in the list of the richest in the world. As Bill Gates, Buffett added $ 3 billion to his fortune among the rankings.

After taking control of Berkshire Hathaway textile factory in 1965, Buffett started to use it to invest in stocks. Like Bill Gates, he also invests in philanthropy, and promised to reserve 99% of its shares to the charity.

4 Bernard Arnault

The French businessman Bernard Arnault jumped from 7th place ranking in 2010 to 4th in 2011. His wealth has increased considerably, from 27.5 billion dollars last year to 41 billion dollars in the last Forbes list.

Arnault is the founder and CEO of LVMH, the conglomerate that brings together the brands Louis Vuitton, Dior, Moet & Chandon and - since last week - Bulgari.

Arnault has other businesses besides the luxury conglomerate, including a tour operator (the Go Voyage), a manufacturer of yachts (Royal Van Lent), and a stake in supermarket chain Carrefour.

5 Larry Ellison

Ellison has built his own fortune - estimated at 39.5 billion dollars - with Oracle, the third largest producer of software. In 2011, it occupies the 5th position in the ranking of billionaires Forbes. The previous ranking he had achieved the 6th position. Between one and another ranking, his fortune grew by $ 11.5 billion.

The American Ellison founded Oracle in 1977, while working on a data processing company. His first prototype was sold to the CIA. The company has developed technology to Amazon and also for eBay.

Waw, thought Steve Jobs would be in there!!! Great list, buzzed up :D

Mark Zuckerberg didn't make the list but he is the youngest billionaire still, isn't he? Or has he been dethroned?

What a great share. Thanks.

Interesting lists. I am never jealous of these people, they all have much more to lose than I have! Voted up.
